On this private wine tour with Barcelona Inside & Out, you discover award-winning wines with exclusive access to the best wineries in Spain’s world-renowned Priorat wine region.
The Priorat wine region is one of only two, along with Rioja, awarded the highest classification in Spain: the denominación de origen clasificada or DOCa. The Priorat is therefore an absolute must-visit for wine lovers on a short or extended stay in Barcelona.
On our tailored, private tour, you visit a hand-picked selection of the best wineries in the Priorat – including Clos de l'Obac, Ferrer Bobet, Mas Martinet and Álvaro Palacios. You are given a private tour of each winery, by the owners or winemakers and enjoy an exclusive tasting of their best vintages, including wines that retail at €300 or more.
At one of the wineries you have an unforgettable 4x4 drive through the vineyards of at least, ending with an outdoor wine tasting among the vines on a hill overlooking the entire Priorat region.
Priorat wine tasting
At each of the wineries, you are given a private tasting of some of Priorat’s best wines.
You discover classic Priorat reds, including blends of the traditional Grenache (Garnacha) and Carignan (Cariñena) used in the area, including some unique and sophisticated single varieties. Depending on the winery, you also get to try the region’s characterful white wines made of Grenache Blanc (Garnacha Blanca), Macabeo and Pedro Ximénez.
For lunch, you are taken to a charming Priorat winery with its own restaurant and beautiful garden terrace for a three-course lunch.
The tour is relaxed as well as informative and you have plenty of time to unwind and enjoy your meal, which is paired with five excellent red and white Priorat wines.

The Priorat wine region is located in the province of Tarragona, and is a two-hour drive from Barcelona. If you’re staying in Barcelona city, we can arrange a private driver to pick you up in a Mercedes V Class or E Class and return you after the tour is over.

What makes the Priorat wine region special?
The Priorat wine region is one of two winemaking areas awarded the highest viticultural qualification level in Spain: the denominación de origen clasificada or DOCa. It shares this distinction with Rioja in the region of La Rioja in northern Spain
But there’s more to the story.
The Priorat is one of the few wine regions that produces first-class Grenache wines. Grenache or Garnacha wines are notoriously difficult to cultivate, and so Priorat shares this elite status with red wine-making regions such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape in France and California’s famous Sine Qua Non.
Priorat is also famous for its “llicorella” soils, which are reddish-black, poor in nutrients, of volcanic origin, and produce wines with a distinctive, mineral-rich and exceptional taste.
Wine-making in the region has a history dating back to the establishment of a Carthusian monastery in 1194 – but the Priorat became only became world-renowned in the mid-1990s when American wine critic Robert Parker awarded 100 points to a red wine vintage from Clos Erasmus.

What’s on the itinerary?
Depending on your preferences and schedule, your Priorat wine tour will include visits to two wineries in the morning and a third after lunch.
You’ll get to choose the wineries from a hand-picked selection during a consultation with our owner, Anthony Eastwood. Usually, we recommend visiting two famous Priorat wineries and a third up-and-coming winery.
At each winery, you have a full guided tour which includes a 4x4 private drive through the vineyards of at least one of them. After each tour, you have a guided wine tasting of their best wines.
You’ll visit two wineries in the morning, and then enjoy a relaxed lunch at an excellent restaurant featuring traditional Catalan dishes with locally sourced produce—and paired with local Priorat wines, of course!
After lunch, you visit the third winery on the tour before returning to Barcelona or wherever you are staying.
Recommended Priorat wineries to visit
Some of the most popular wineries to visit on a Priorat wine tour are the innovators who came in the 1980s: such as Clos Mogador, Clos d’Obac and Alvaro Palacios, both of whom produce some of Priorat’s most sought-after wines.
For a more intimate experience, there are family-run wineries like Celler Devinssi, where you can take a walk through the vineyards and speak to the winemakers themselves.

Beautiful private winery tour
My husband and I went on wine tour with Anthony while on a recent trip to Tarragona. He picked us up from our hotel in the morning and we made our way to the beautiful Priorat region.
