Discover Catalonia’s rich cultural heritage

The birthplace of Gaudí and Dalí, Catalonia is also home to six Unesco World Heritage Sites, Europe’s densest concentration of Romanesque architecture and more Modernista monuments than anywhere else on earth.

This is a region which packs a huge cultural punch, with plenty to absorb anyone interested in history, art, architecture, design, museums, music, local traditions, fashion or folklore. We can tailor-make a cultural itinerary which will highlight your areas of interest as well as give you a unique insight into local traditions and customs.

There are over 2000 romanesque buildings in Catalonia

Catalonia’s six World Heritage Sites cover everything from prehistoric rock paintings, to the magical creations of Antoni Gaudí and his fellow Modernista architects.

High in the Pyrenees, you can visit the Romanesque churches of the remote Boí Valley, painted with vivid frescoes in the 11th and 12th centuries.

In Tarragona, once the powerful capital of Hispania Citerior, you can walk in the footsteps of Roman gladiators in the amphitheatre or those of Hannibal and his elephants along the banks of the river Ebro. And the magnificent Poblet monastery, medieval resting place of the Catalan count-kings, which is being restored to its former splendour, provides a fascinating insight into early monastic life.

Historians will be fascinated by the ancient ruins at Empúries, one of the earliest Greek settlements on the Iberian peninsula. And by the time-capsule medieval villages which have resisted change for centuries. Then there are Templar castles to explore, as well as remote monasteries, Arabic citadels and mysterious dolmens.
