On this tour we take you to explore one of Spain’s most highly-regarded wine regions, which is also considered by many, ourselves included as its most beautiful. On your journey through the Priorat’s rugged hillsides, where you will discover why its wines have gained a reputation as some of the best in Spain.

As our Priorat wine tours are private they can be tailored to best suit you. We work with all the Priorat’s top producers and some exciting newcomers. The Priorat Wine Region
The Priorat is the only wine region in Spain, along with La Rioja, to possess the country’s top-tier DOCa classification (Denomiacion de Origen Calificada), and as such, is a required stop for any wine tour of Spain.
The Priorat wine region’s dramatic countryside of shaded valleys and little villages tucked between rocky hills almost entirely dedicated to vineyards are reason enough to justify a visit. But its expert wineries are the main attraction here, making for an unforgettable wine tour.
The tradition of wine-making in the Priorat dates back to Roman times. The region got its name later on, though, from the Carthusian Priory of Escaladei, whose monks cultivated and expanded the vineyards in the Middle Ages.
Little changed for centuries in the Priorat, but five visionary wine pioneers arrived in the 1980s, and together, they set about transforming the Priorat’s fortunes. This group, made up of René Barbier, Álvaro Palacios, Josep Lluís Pérez, Daphne Glorian, and Carles Pastrana, is credited with starting the wine revival revolution in the Priorat and each is now producing some of the best wines in Spain.

What you’ll experience on the Priorat wine tour
The tour includes visits to two or three of the region’s most acclaimed wineries, depending on the length giving you a clear insight into the methods and techniques used for winemaking in the region.
At each winery, you have a full guided tour that includes visiting the vineyards at one of them. After each tour, you have a guided wine tasting of their best wines.
After visiting two wineries in the morning, you have a table for a relaxed lunch at an excellent restaurant that creates amazing dishes with locally sourced produce all paired with some local wines, of course! After lunch, you visit the third winery on the tour before returning to Barcelona.

Recommended Priorat wineries to visit
We are grateful for all our wonderful contacts in the Priorat and are proud to be able to partner with top wineries like Clos Mogador, Clos de l’Obac, and Alvaro Palacios to name but three of them.
We have also sought out exceptional lesser-known wine producers, each with their own special angle and skill set. The passion and love for the craft of all these wineries is palpable, and this energy and enthusiasm that they are happy to share with guests is the key to a great wine tour.
Recommended wine tastings in the Priorat
At every priorat winery you visit you’ll also get to taste their very best wines. The Priorat is famous for its red wines, particularly Garnacha. But we recommend you also taste cultivars like Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Depending on the tour you choose, you’ll also get to taste unique Priorat white wines such as Garnacha Blanca.

Priorat Cathedrals of Wine Tour
Priorat’s cathedrals of wine are iconic art nouveau-style buildings designed and built by contemporaries of Antoni Gaudi to house cooperative wineries in towns in and around the Priorat. They are so-called because of their majestic church-like structures. Let us know if you would like to include a visit to one of these cathedrals on your tour, though if you have time they are best seen and experienced on a two or three-day visit to the region.
